ExpertGen or a LinkedIn lead gen agency: who you message

You've sent cold messages to strangers on LinkedIn and watched them sit unread. Now you're choosing between hiring a team to send more of them and getting your name known first.

Short answer

LinkedIn lead gen agencies send connection requests and messages to a cold list on your behalf, and some promise a number of leads. ExpertGen works the other way around. We fill your LinkedIn network with your buyers, publish 12 posts a month in your voice, then message only the people who accept or react. If you want volume this month, hire an agency. If you'd rather have your name known before you ask anyone for a call, pick ExpertGen.

What LinkedIn lead gen agencies are

A LinkedIn lead gen agency sends connection invites and messages to a list of people for you. You tell them who your buyer is. They build the list from filters like title, industry and company size. Then they write the messages and run the sending. When someone replies, they either hand that reply to you or answer it and set the meeting.

SalesBread is one example. Their site lists a campaign strategy session, list building and research, sales copywriting, manual personalization, LinkedIn and email outreach, daily lead delivery, and inbox monitoring. They also publish a guarantee: “20+ sales qualified leads per month using ultra-personalized LinkedIn + email outreach, or your money back.” Their site says the service is month to month. Their pricing page didn't load when we checked, so we're not quoting a price for them.

Cleverly works the same way. Their site sells LinkedIn lead generation, cold email, cold calling, appointment setting and outsourced sales reps, and their LinkedIn page says services start at $397 per month. Zeekeo is the third one we looked at. They publish a done for you plan from $600 a month, with a growth pod, list building and weekly work on the campaign, plus a self serve plan at $149 per seat each month. Cleverly's own cost guide cites a much wider retainer range of $3,000 to $25,000 a month for B2B lead generation, quoting Callbox for that figure.

What LinkedIn lead gen agencies do well

Volume is the real strength here. An agency can put your offer in front of a few thousand names in a month, and they own the list building, the writing and the sending. If you need reach fast, that's what they're built for. They also carry the tools and the training, so nobody on your team has to learn any of it. Zeekeo and SalesBread both run email alongside LinkedIn, so one team covers two channels.

Some of them sell you an outcome instead of hours, and that moves real risk off your desk. SalesBread promises 20 or more sales qualified leads a month or your money back, and says clients stay month to month on performance alone. We don't offer anything like that. If a written lead count is what you need to get a budget approved, an agency that publishes one is the better pick.

Where LinkedIn lead gen agencies stop

They do get the messages out. The person reading one has still never heard of you, though, and a few parts of the job never leave your desk.

What ExpertGen does instead

ExpertGen is a LinkedIn scaling agency in Portland, Oregon. First we build your network out of your exact buyers. We pull that list on LinkedIn by title, company size and industry, and you approve it before anything sends. Then 600 connection requests a month go out from your own profile, which comes to 20 a day.

Then we warm that network with posts. Every month we publish 12 posts on your profile, written in your voice, and the words come from you. You and we start with one 45 minute call. After that you send us a 10 minute voice memo each week, and we turn the memo into that week's posts. Setup also includes a rewrite of your profile so it reads for buyers.

From week 3, a short message in your voice goes to each buyer who accepts the request or reacts to a post, and we stop at three. Then we book the calls with the people who reply. Every week you get a scoreboard: buyers added, buyers reacting, messages sent, replies, calls. We count buyers reacting instead of connections, because the feed decides who actually sees a post and a bigger connection count doesn't change that.

Across campaigns we've run, messages to a sender's own first degree network of buyers got 11 to 28 replies per 100, over five campaigns. The same kind of message to strangers got about 1 reply per 100. The people have to be your buyers, and they have to know your name. This takes weeks, not days, and it needs 10 minutes of your voice every week. If you need calls this week, an agency is the better fit.

Who should pick which

Pick a LinkedIn lead gen agency if

  • You need volume this month and can't wait for your name to get known.
  • You want a written lead count with money back, like the one SalesBread publishes.
  • Nobody at your company will give 10 minutes a week to a voice memo.

Pick ExpertGen if

  • You sell to other businesses and your buyers are on LinkedIn.
  • You want your own profile doing the work, so it keeps paying after the invoice stops.
  • You'd rather send fewer messages, to people who already accepted you.

What it costs, side by side

On published numbers, Cleverly starts at $397 a month for LinkedIn lead generation. Zeekeo publishes a done for you plan from $600 a month and a self serve plan at $149 per seat each month. SalesBread doesn't publish a price, and their pricing page didn't load when we checked, so treat any figure you've seen elsewhere as third party. Cleverly's own cost guide puts the wider retainer market at $3,000 to $25,000 a month. Whatever you pay, add your own hours for review calls and for taking the meetings.

ExpertGen is one flat plan, and it starts with a 90-day block because a network takes weeks to warm up. We give you the price on the first call. The plan covers the buyer list, the profile rewrite, 12 posts a month, 600 connection requests a month, the messages from week 3, and the weekly scoreboard. The rest of what you spend is time: one 45 minute call to start, then 10 minutes a week.

Questions people ask about this

Not in the usual sense. A lead gen agency sends requests and messages to a cold list. We build your network first, publish 12 posts a month in your voice, and message only the people who accepted your request or reacted to a post. Then we book the calls that come out of those replies.
Yes, and they do different work. An agency messages strangers at volume. We message the people who already accepted you. Agree up front on which LinkedIn account sends what, so two senders aren't working the same profile.
No, we don't promise a lead count. What you get every week is a scoreboard with the real numbers on it: buyers added, buyers reacting, messages, replies and calls. Some agencies do promise a count, and SalesBread publishes one on its site. If a promised count is what you need to sign off a budget, that's a fair reason to pick them.
You can't tell from published numbers alone. Cleverly lists LinkedIn lead generation from $397 a month and Zeekeo lists a done for you plan from $600 a month. SalesBread doesn't publish a price. Mine is one flat plan, and we give you the price on the first call.
Connection requests go out in week 1. Messages start in week 3, once people have accepted and seen a few of your posts. By then your name isn't new to them.
